Cactus Canyon held its annual FITE Night literacy fair on Feb. 28. Families Interacting Through Education Night is a night were students get to spend time with their family with no technology.
One of the main events was the Chemistry Cook-off, where kids bring foods that they made at home so they can demonstrate what they know about the chemical reactions that took place during the cooking process.
Eighth-grade science teacher Regan Roach was responsible for the Chemistry Cook-off. Language arts teacher John Leal’s role was to organise all the games and raffle prizes.
“Families came to FITE night to have time to hang out with each other (without technology) and learn something new, have some fun,” Mrs. Roach said.
In addition to the Chemistry Cook-off, members of the band played and student art work was displayed.
“I expect students and families to take away how committed students are to learning and sharing what they have learned,” Mr. Leal said.
