Physical education students are learning to be better leaders. Students were split into teams, and given the job to become team captains. The captain for each team is in charge of making sure everyone is playing, included, and solving any score dysfunctions.
“It’s just an idea to add more responsibility to students,” Coach Kim Grant said.
The leader’s job is to be sure that everyone is involved and playing the day’s activity. They also have to resolve any problems in the group.
“My role as a leader was to have everybody participate in the sports we were doing and having people do everything right,” eighth grader McKenzie Neace said. “I felt like it was a good activity.”
Coach Grant wanted to do this activity to teach students responsibility, and for them to become better problem solvers. She said giving students a job to watch over a group of students shows them how to minimize and fix problems.
“The process is developing people skills and understanding how to relate to others and work with everyone by defusing bad situations on their own,” she said.
