Carol Dolle, the school counselor created a new elective called Cougar Life that helps students learn skills to help them in their future life. Students will do gardening, cooking, and reading in this class.
This class started on Sept. 11 and is only a second-hour elective. Mrs. Dolle has done a similar class seven years ago, so she has experience with the material.
“I taught a similar class several years ago and I really enjoy it,” Mrs. Dolle said.
Students in Cougar Life will be having days for gardening and also will be reading a book called Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Mrs. Dolle will be teaching the importance of balance, which will be crucial for a student’s future.
Although Cougar Life looks fun and games, students will be taught English language standards.
“This class incorporates the speaking and listening strands of Arizona State Standards for ELA,” said Dolle.
The class filled up in about a week with many students still wanting to join. Mrs. Dolle wants this class is very valuable and fundamental for the students future life, some students can be different and be free in that class also act like themselves.
“It will make me feel like I have a purpose and be able to do basic life principles,” eighth grader Donovan Ritter said.
Since Mrs. Dolle is the school counselor and deals with kids that have problems in their life and after seeing kids with these issues she wanted to start a class that helps.
“I want my students to understand that they need to find an outlet for their creativity that helps cope with stress,” Dolle said.
