The PTO clothing drive in August raised about $400 to support some of Cactus Canyon’s programs.
Some of the money will be donated to the yearbook class to purchase books for students who can’t afford them. Sunshine Acres, which runs the fundraiser, is a Christian home for children who are separated from their parents. According to its website, the group helps them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures, preparing them for in adult life.
The group collected 1,004 pounds of clothing at 15 cents per pound and 866 pounds of miscellaneous items at 10 cents per pound.
“This is the best we have ever done,” math teacher Lydia Henry said.
The PTO said they do two drives per year and collects clothes all year round. The next drive will be near Valentine’s Day.
“(Collecting all year) is why we did better this time around,” Mrs. Henry said. “ We already have a collection of items for the next one. It is an easy fundraiser for (us) to do.”
The next PTO event will be Texas Roadhouse Night from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Stapley Road location. The restaurant will be donating 10% of each bill directly back to the school.

Money going towards a good cause, I’m sure those kids will appreciate it.

All the money CCJH raised for the PTO drive was amazing. I’m glad I see this money going somewhere important for the community.
